New Level + Branches - Practical Philosophy Weekend

Students who have completed three terms of Philosophy are invited to stay for a weekend at the School’s study centre at Waterperry House to extend their study of philosophy. We have consistently found that coming together in this delightful setting in the Oxfordshire countryside helps to consolidate the practical aspects of what has been discussed in your group. This often results in increased happiness and sense of awareness.

The programme is designed for those who are attending a residential for the first time as well as those who have enjoyed these events before.

The structured daily programme will include discussion, periods of study and quiet time as well as practical work. The house is managed by the School and all activities such as preparing meals and house cleaning will be carried out by students on the weekend. Philosophy is intended to challenge your views on mundane activities as well as the larger issues in life!

Accommodation will be on a shared room basis with only a few single rooms available for those in genuine need. The beds have no linen so please bring 2 bed sheets, pillowcase and a bath towel. If this is not possible then there will be a charge of £9 for these items. Bathrooms are also shared (same-sex).

You should bring clothes to reflect likely activities. i.e. some work clothes, coats & waterproofs, boots or shoes for outside. In the evening, smart/casual wear is usual with the aim of giving a sense of occasion to the dinner.

The weekend will start at 9.00pm on the Friday and we expect to finish at 4pm on the Sunday.

Please leave time to find the house, locate your bedroom and have a cup of tea or coffee. The house will be open from 7.00pm. There is no food available on Friday evening so please eat before arriving.

The cost of the weekend is £76 (£28 for full time students), payable in advance, plus a charge for wine if taken. The fee is non-refundable but may be transferable to another weekend.

Places are limited so early booking is strongly recommended. Booking is through the Mandeville Office, 020 7034 4000, Mon - Fri between 11am – 4pm only.

I hope you will take this opportunity to join fellow philosophers for this weekend. Please ask your Tutor if you have any questions and to let them share their residential experiences with you.
